THREE TWISTED SISTERS!

I LOVE Map My Walk, use it to create and track walks and hikes.  And today I used it to make a motorcycle route of the Three Twisted Sisters, one of Texas' best scenic drives.  It starts in my home town of Leakey and includes highways 337, 335 and 336, which will loop around and take you back to Leakey. And you don't even need a motorcycle!  It's pretty nice in a car too, especially if you bring along some lofty inspiring CDs to match the scenery.  OR!  You can just take this 3-D flyover and do the entire 95 miles in less than 30 minutes.  You will crest ridges, plunge into canyons, ford rivers, be elevated up to over 2400 feet, and wind over paths that will give your compass a workout.

If you make the trek for real, though, I would suggest starting in Leakey,  making a pit/lunch stop in CampWood  (Casa Falcon) or Barksdale  (Angel Wings Cafe or The Hot Dog Stand).  If you have a sweet tooth, Bear Creek Fudge in Camp Wood makes a really good turtle fudge in the shape of ... a turtle.  It might be easier on the bladder to start with 336, but this video starts with 337.  Just to give you an idea.

Also, this can be done all in one day, but it is nice to spend the night so you aren't spending the whole day driving including back and forth to wherever you live.  We like Frio Springs Lodges right in the middle of town http://www.friosprings.com/ especially the little cliff house that sleeps two and overlooks the springs.
